Who is George Morris?
Yesterday I took the day off from work. I think I am on the mend and this evil sinus cold is leaving. I spent time noodling around online and found this gem on Catchride.com. When I was a junior rider a thousand years ago, George Morris was the LAST word on riding huntseat. Any of you Hunter and Hunt Seat Equitation riders who look to George as the equivalent of a god in custom boots and a Polo shirt will chuckle while reading this!
Who Is George Morris?
And in case you want to read the truth about what the man has really accomplished:

oh, your title caught my eye, but it's too bad i couldn't open the link. i have been in the h/j world for years, including on the a-circuit, and i have always been dumbfounded by the reverence paid to this man and his method. his followers are more like disciples than students.
i take issue with a lot for what he says and does as a rider and trainer, and i'd love it if someone could explain the appeal, because i've read his book (and disagreed with much of it) and seen him in action, up close and personal, and i've just never been impressed, particularly after spending some time in europe... if anything, i think he's hurt our sport, not improved it. i'm curious to hear what others think...
Hi jme! Oh no!! I'm guessing you can only access this if you are a Catchride.com member. My bad. I will investigate and repost the link if I can.
I couldn't open the link either. Here's where I lose a lot of readers. I have no respect for this man, I have no idea how he got where he is in this business. Must be pretty good at promoting himself I guess. I've seen him in action at shows and elsewhere and have never been impressed by his demeanor or antics. His books give some really wrong directions on how to ride properly and I believe he has been a detriment to the hunter/jumper world on the whole. There are so many more trainers who are so much better than this guy. I better stop now before I really get going.
thanks! that makes sense - i'll see about joining :-)
LOL, it's cool Grey Horse, everyone is entitled to their opinion and this man can be quite the spark to ignite heated discussion. I think there is merit to his opinion of the sport, but I don't agree with all of it either.
